I was walking down the aisles of the toy store just today looking at all of the various Barbie games that are available. Mattel has made it official. After being petitioned on Change.org, the manufacturer of Barbie games has decided to produce a bald doll. This is not actually a bald Barbie doll, herself, but rather a bald friend-of-Barbie who will make the Barbie games that much more exciting for young girls to play. The bald Barbie games are designed to reflect the “bald and beautiful” appearance of young girls and the family members of young girls who are currently undergoing cancer treatments or other medical conditions that result in hair loss.

The bald Barbie games are part of the True Hope series of dolls that Mattel is making to help support cancer awareness and the treatment of the disease. The bald Barbie games will be joined by bald Bratz games and bald Moxie girls games as well. The end result will be a group of bald fashion dolls who are just as pretty as the one with hair, but they will help to represent a better portion of society as well.

Barbie Games and Hair Color

It's not very often that you used to see a Barbie doll with a different hair color. Barbie games have almost always had blonde hair and the more games you played, the more you became used to the blonde hair. In fact, it was simply the way things were done when you played. Ken even, in the first edition of course, had blonde hair as well.

As the Barbie games became more main stream, we were finally able to move away from the blonde hair that was traditionally associated with the dolls. Now we have Barbie games in any number of differ rent styles and designs, and among those you'll find the red hair and brown hair that makes the dolls unique at least. But most of the time, when you're considering Barbie games, you'll almost certainly run into the blonde haired bombshell we've all been familiar with. Everyone else just appears to be Barbie’s best friend.

Barbie Games and Growing Up

I don’t think it’s necessary to leave Barbie games behind when we grow up. Barbie games are the same sort of thing as footballs and cartoons. We might let them rest for awhile, but we’ll always be back – you can keep a girl away from her Barbie games. Growing up, you played with the dolls. First you might have expertly handled the Princess Barbies. Then you got the more grown-up Barbie games with real jobs and plenty of accessories including a boyfriend or two.

But that’s not enough for us now. As you’ve grown older, it’s only natural to want more. You can get more though by visiting the Barbie games online. I was impressed recently to see a large box of all of the princesses little girls play with being sold in a set. There were at least six, maybe even seven princess Barbie games in a single box – all lined up and named according to the popular children’s movie they were from. I understand that princesses are a big deal with little girls, but I wonder if Barbie games aren’t getting a bit less creative by selling the same doll who already has a story.

The best thing about something like Barbie games is how simple they are and how easily children can start to create with the dolls. The Barbie games are like a blank slate and the girls are able to draw on that slate by giving Barbie stories to act out. When Barbie games are sold as princesses who have a movie and story already, are they are ripe for creative interpretation? It’s not certain, of course, but if I were to go back in time, I think I’d much rather have Barbie games that I could actually play with rather than a doll whose life was predetermined for me.  

Barbie Games and Babysitting

It’s amusing really, but I’ve never played as many Barbie games in my life as I get to when I’m babysitting. It’s a true Barbie games phenomenon. I think the reason every little girl I babysit gets excited about playing Barbie games with me, the older, wiser babysitter is that I’m not her mother and I’m not her own age. I’m in between – a teenager ready to impose real fashion wisdom and advice. The fact that I’m just someone new to play with certainly doesn’t hurt either.

I remember growing up and getting excited at the idea of a babysitter coming over to play with us. We’d make plans for all of the exciting games we’d enjoy with the grown-up teenager, and I’m reasonably sure that’s what I’m experiencing today. The girls I babysit think I’m cool and that I’m a great person to play Barbie games with. I, for one, am not going to bust their bubble by letting them know about my fashion weaknesses. Instead I’ll be wise, savvy and fashion-forward, so long as I have a Barbie outfit to show for it.

Barbie Games and Glam

The Barbie games have definitely added a bit of glam to an otherwise basic fashion doll kingdom. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always adored Barbie games, but I like the new pink and black thing that the dolls are doing and I like the glamorous rooms of furniture and accessories you can now get for the Barbie dream houses. Barbies are big business of course, but they needed something new and different to pick them up again from the basic doll and outfit they were becoming.

The pink and black line of furniture and accessories is packaged one room at a time. I personally like the box of bathroom furniture. I mean really – how can Barbie get ready for a date with that stud, Ken, if she hasn’t had a proper soak in the tub and a chance to go potty before hand? I love the large soaking tub they include for Barbie and the other vintage styled accessories. Personally I love them primarily because I’d like to have them in my own home, but I digress. Any way you slice it, Barbie and her dream home are looking great now thanks to these new pink and black packages.

Barbie Games for All Ages

Barbie games are now being advertised to younger girls – usually between 3 and 8, but that doesn’t mean the Barbie games are over for those of us who still love fashion and have a soft spot for Barbies. For many, it seems the jump between playing with Barbies and starting a collection is close to twenty years. But that’s not necessarily the case.

If you have a love for Barbie games, don’t let your age or anything else get in the way of playing he games you love so much.

Buy the Barbies You Love
You’ll need to buy the Barbies you actually enjoy playing with to make this a successful notion. Barbie is much more than the blonde haired bombshell we know and love. Opt for the dolls that seem to speak to you on some level – like the dolls dressed up like Disney characters or ones that are dressed for special occasions. Collector’s editions might also be a great choice for those looking for special Barbies – even if you’re not interested in starting a collection yet.

The New Old Barbie Games

I was shopping the other day for toys, and I came across a discovery that I was literally thrilled about. In honor of Barbie’s 50th anniversary, Mattel has released the old Barbies in special collector’s editions.

The Classic Barbie
The first new old Barbie I found was the classic Barbie in her red and white swimsuit. This was the Barbie that took the world by storm and she’s still wearing the same swim costume and has her hair done in the same high ponytail with bangs.

The First Malibu Barbie
Malibu Barbie was introduced to the world in the seventies, judging by the date on the box. Having never even seen a picture of the first Malibu Barbie games, I was impressed. Malibu Barbie had a much deeper tan than the original Barbie and her swimsuit was much more interesting – a high cut orange number if I remember correctly. Hair was long and flowing and she looked very much like a carefree California girl.

With her distinctive dark hairstyle, the bubble cut Barbie showed us everything about the early 1960s. Her fur trimmed gown especially is fun – it makes me feel very glamorous, in fact.

Barbie Games – Help Barbie Find Romance

It’s getting closer to Valentine’s Day and we all know that Barbie is having trouble in the romance department. She broke up with Ken – it was getting much to serious, so now she’s looking for love, and it’s up to you to help her find it. Since we’re talking about Barbie games here, I have a few suggestions for Barbie’s next big romance:

Ken – Sure she rejected him, but why not give it another chance? They’ve both been through a lot since the big break-up, maybe it’s time to move on and give love another chance.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – He is a master Jedi training some of the best Jedi knights, including the one that turned on his brethren. When I vote for Obi-Wan Kenobi, I mean the young version – not the old man. Who could reject such as warrior?

Zac Efron – He’s in the boxes for High School Musical style dolls, but that’s no reason he can’t get to know Barbie a bit. He’s young, he’s fun, he can sing. He makes the perfect guy for a girl looking to go out on the town and have fun again.

Are You Too Old For Barbie Games?

Is there such a thing as being too old for Barbie games? I’m of the mind that there certainly is not. In fact, let me clue you in on how Barbie games are played at virtually any age.

The Toddler – Those with younger sisters know that Barbie dolls are fasinating to young children. They love to play with their hair and carry them around, usually by one leg.
